What to Expect During Your MRI Visit at Mosaic Diagnostics
Knowing what to expect can ease any concerns about your upcoming MRI scan. At Mosaic Diagnostics, we’re committed to making your visit comfortable, informed, and stress-free at our seven NYC and Long Island locations. Led by Dr. Eric Feldmann, our team guides you through every step—before, during, and after your appointment. Explore this guide to prepare for your Open MRI or other diagnostic imaging services.
Preparing for Your Appointment
- Scheduling: Schedule your MRI by calling (888) 220-0508 or submitting an online request. A physician’s referral/order is required.
- Insurance & Pre-authorization: Verify your insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorization if required by your plan. See Insurance Accepted
- Screening: Complete our MRI Safety Screening Form to disclose metal implants, pacemakers pregnancy, allergies, or claustrophobia concerns. Our staff will contact you or provide the form at check-in.
Preparation Instructions:

Food & Drink:
For most Open MRI scans at Mosaic Diagnostics, you can eat, drink, and take medications as usual unless instructed otherwise. (Verify if contrast is used; if so, fasting may be required for specific scans.)

What to Wear:
Wear comfortable, metal-free clothing (e.g., no zippers, snaps, underwire bras, or jewelry). We provide gowns and secure lockers for personal belongings.

What to Bring:
Bring: Bring a photo ID, insurance card, physician referral/order, and a list of current medications.

Arrival Time:
Arrive 15–20 minutes early to complete paperwork or confirm pre-filled forms.

Claustrophobia/Anxiety:
Claustrophobia/Anxiety: Our Open MRI scanners are spacious, reducing anxiety. Discuss concerns with our staff or your doctor, who may prescribe a mild sedative (arrange a driver if needed).
What Happens During Your Scan

Check-in & Paperwork:
Upon arrival, our friendly staff will assist with check-in and verify your forms.

Meeting the Technologist:
Your MRI technologist will explain the procedure, answer questions, and ensure your comfort.

Changing & Lockers:
Use our private changing rooms and secure lockers for belongings if needed.

Positioning:
You’ll lie on a padded scanner table, and the technologist may place coils around the body part being scanned to enhance image quality.

Patient-Centered Care:
Our compassionate team ensures a stress-free experience, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to enhance compliance.

The Scanner Environment:
Our Open MRI scanners are spacious and less enclosed, ideal for claustrophobic patients. Expect knocking or buzzing sounds; we provide earplugs or headphones with music.

Staying Still:
Remain as still as possible during the scan to ensure clear images.

Communication:
A two-way intercom allows you to speak with the technologist at any time.

Scan Duration:
Most MRI scans last 30–60 minutes, depending on the exam.

Contrast Agent:
If contrast is needed, it’s administered via IV, and you may feel a cool sensation. Our staff will explain the process.
After Your MRI Scan
Post-Scan Information

Completion:
The technologist will assist you off the scanner table.

Changing & Departure:
Retrieve your belongings and change back into your clothes.

Normal Activities:
Resume normal activities immediately unless you’ve taken a sedative, in which case you’ll need a driver.

Image Access:
Request copies of your images for a fee by contacting our office at (888) 220-0508.
